Musika Bulegoa Awards
Edition
These are the Basque music sector awards
Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa annually recognises the most significant projects of the music scene composed, produced or starring Basque artists, groups or projects. The awards aim, among other things, to highlight the value of the Basque music sector, promote the output of artists, publicise and promote their work and serve as a showcase to the world.
There are a total of 10 prizes, eight of which are awarded by a jury made up of prestigious professionals from the cultural sector. In addition, there is an honorary prize awarded by the EHMBE board of directors in recognition of the career of a person, group or entity related to musical activity, as well as the award given by the Etxepare Basque Institute for the international dissemination of Basque music. The prizes consist of €2,000 each, plus a sculpture by Fernando Mikelarena, and do not correspond to any specific category: all the creations compete in equal conditions in terms of originality and quality, regardless of the style to which they belong. Since its first edition, the works and projects submitted have Basque as their main language: approximately 7 out of ten are composed and produced in Basque, while instrumental works represent 11% and works in Spanish 10%, the rest being created in languages other than Basque and Spanish.
